Destiny Brannon was stripped of her valedictorian status and scholarship following a miscalculation by Desoto High School in Texas.
The teenager was announced as valedictorian and even delivered her class graduation speech before she received the miscalculation news two weeks later.
Brannon and her mom believe she was stripped of her title after she delivered a graduation speech critiquing the high school for subpar teachers and valuing over academics.
Now family is scrambling to find a way to cover the $25,134 yearly tuition.
Brannon and her mom who works as secretary in Desoto High's counselor's office said they believe it's no coincidence she was stripped of her title.
Two weeks later on June 12 the school took away her title after realizing it made the rankings based on the fall semester grades rather than spring semester.
She was bumped down to fourth in her class from first in the rankings. She lost the one year scholarship Texas offers to public school valedictorians.
